Marcos Lisboa

Marcos LisboaPresident

Marcos Lisboa’s career includes experiences in academia, government and as an executive at financial institutions. Today the President of Insper, a leading non-profit business and economics school in Brazil, from 2013 to April 2015 he served as its Vice–president. From 2006 to 2009, he served as Executive Director at Itaú Unibanco and as Vice President from 2009 to 2013. From 2005 to 2006, he was President of the Brazilian Reinsurance Institute and had served as the Economic Policy Secretary from Finance Ministry from 2003 to 2005.

Marcos was Assistant Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Economics of Fundação Getúlio Vargas between 1998 and 2002 and previously as Assistant Professor of Economics at the Economics Department at Stanford University from 1996 to 1998. Marcos is Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

André Lahóz Mendonça de Barros

André Lahoz

Executive Coordinator of Marketing and Knowledge

Before Insper, André Lahóz Mendonça de Barros had worked for 22 years at Brazil’s leading business magazine Exame, which he directed for almost a decade.

Besides, he has been an economics editor, editorialist, special reporter, and correspondent in Paris for the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper.

André Lahoz has a B.A. in Economics and a Master’s in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (USP). He has also earned Master’s degrees in Economic History, from the London School of Economics (LSE) and in Economics, from Insper.

Guilherme Silveira Martins

Guilherme MartinsDean of Undergraduate Programs

Guilherme Martins holds Master and Doctors degrees in Business Administration in Operations and Competitiveness Management fields from the School of Economics and Business Administration (EAESP) of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). He undergraduated in Business Management for Federal University of Viçosa (MG).

Since the beginning of his career, his professional performance has focused on Operations, the development of product/process improvement projects in Logistics companies, in the Third Sector, in the Educational branch and in large retail chains. As a researcher, his studies seek to show how companies’ competitive advantage is affected by the adoption, at different levels, of operational and supply chain management practices.

He joined Insper in 2009, where he is an Associate Professor dedicated to the areas of Operations Management and Supply Chain, for Undergraduate, MBA, Professional Masters and Executive Education. At graduation, he is the professor responsible for the REP program (Effective Problem Solving) where students work on real problem solving projects of partner companies. Since 2017, he has acted as coordinator of the Administration course and since 2019 as Executive Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program, being responsible for the areas that support the student experience and for projects that reinforce Insper’s value proposition of an integrated degree between Administration, Economics and Engineering.

Irineu Gustavo Nogueira Gianesi

Irineu G. N. GianesiDean of Academic Affairs

He is currently dean of Teaching and Learning Development. From 2012 to September 2015 Irineu led the implementation of the new full-time undergraduate programs in engineering. Previously, for eight years, he was dean of lato sensu graduate programs, which included the Executive MBA, Certificate and LL.M. programs, while also coordinating the school’s international accreditation processes.

He is a professor at Insper for its Executive MBA, Undergraduate and Executive Education programs. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He received a master’s degree in Production Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and completed a non-degree specialization in Business Administration from the School of Economics and Business Administration (EAESP) at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

He also holds the designation Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) from APICS. He has 24 years of academic experience in research and undergraduate programs at USP’s Polytechnic School and at Insper, as well as at the Executive MBA programs of top business schools in São Paulo. He has authored papers published in Brazilian and international journals as well as three books in the field of Operations Management. He has 28 years of experience as a professional and consultant at companies such as Embraer, Natura, 3M, Unilever, Copersucar, Souza Cruz, Monsanto, Cargill, Rhodia, Tubos Tigre, Accenture, PriceWaterhouse, Ceras Johnson, Itautec-Philco, Hewlett Packard and Embraco.

Marcelo Orticelli

Marcelo OrticelliDean of Education for Executives and Development

Marcelo built a career spanning nearly 30 years at Itaú-Unibanco, having worked at diverse areas such as Controllership, Planning, Risks (credit, market and operational), Ombudsman, Continuous Improvement and Efficiency.

He worked as HR and Labor Relations Officer, responsible for the policies and guidelines of HR products, and for relations with trade unions. He still serves as Director of Unibanco Institute, a social entity related to the group that runs projects aimed at improving high school education in public schools.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from PUC-SP and has completed the professional master’s program in Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-SP) and an extension program at the University of Texas at Austin.

Paulo Furquim de Azevedo

Dean of Teaching and Learning

He is an Insper Professor and coordinator of the Center for Regulation and Democracy (CRD). He teaches full-time in the Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral programs at Insper.

Prof. Furquim holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas – FGV. He has a Master’s and Ph.D. in Economics from the School of Economics, Business, and Accounting of the University of São Paulo (FEA/USP). Prof. Furquim had been a Visiting Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2012 and a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) in 1994. Before joining Insper, he was a professor at the Sao Paulo School of Economics – FGV, as well as at the University of São Paulo (USP) and Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).

He also authored several papers and book chapters on competition policy, regulation, market and firm organization, and Law and Economics. He is a fellow researcher of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq)’, and has also been a reviewer and member of the editorial board of several scientific publications. Prof. Furquim coordinated thematic projects at the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), in the area of market institutions; Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in the area of productive development policies; Center for Studies in Social and Economic Law (CEDES) and the Brazilian National Council of Justice (CNJ), both in the area of Economic Analysis of Law.

Furquim’s research stands out for being cross-functional. He has contributed to the fields of industrial organization, competition policy, law and economics, regulation, and organizational economics, having trained generations of students at the most diverse levels (Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral).

He also served as Commissioner at the Brazilian Competition Authority (CADE), from 2006 to 2009, and as its acting president from August to November 2008, when he gathered experience in the enforcement of competition and market regulation policies. For several years, Prof. Furquim has been referred by Global Competition Review’s Who is Who as the Leading Individual or Most Highly Regarded Competition Economist in Brazil. In 2016, he also received the Competition & Anti-trust Advisory Firm of The Year award from Corporate LiveWire – Global Awards.

Sergio Firpo

Sérgio FirpoDean of Research

Sergio Firpo is Instituto Unibanco Professor of Economics at Insper. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1996. He was an assistant professor of economics at the University of British Columbia, (1999–2002) and at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2003–2003), and an associate professor at the Sao Paulo School of Economics (2006–2004) before joining Insper in January 2008.

His main research interests are microeconometrics, policy evaluation, labor economics, development economics and empirical political economy.

His works have appeared at many peer-reviewed journals and books, including Econometrica, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Human Resources, and Handbook of Labor Economics. His research has been awarded prizes including the Richard Stone Prize in Applied Econometrics.

Firpo is an Elected Fellow of the Econometric Society and Level 2008 Researcher at CNPq. He is also Research Fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), the Global Labor Organization (GLO) and the Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED). He is 1-D researcher from CNPq and member founder from National Institute of Science and Technology of Education, Economic Development and Social Inclusion. He is member of editorial council of the Economic Research and Planning Economics Echoes magazines. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Business Economics and Statistics, Journal of Econometric Methods and Journal of Applied Econometrics (starting January 4).

Silvia Bassaglia

Silvia BassagliaSenior Director of Operations

Responsible for the Infrastructure, Facilities, Assets, Projects & Construction and Workplace Safety departments.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing with emphasis in Call Centers and CRM. She has wide experience in Operations and Customer Service, Sales and Customer Relations.
She also worked in business services companies, where she been responsible for projects to expand markets, retain clients and cut costs.
