Academic Directors


Guilherme Martins holds an M.Sc. and PhD in Business Administration in Operations and Competitiveness Management from the School of Economics and Business Administration (EAESP) of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV). He received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from the Federal University of Viçosa (MG).

 

Since the beginning of his career, his professional performance has focused on Operations, the development of product/process improvement projects in Logistics companies, in the Third Sector, in the Educational branch and in large retail chains. As a researcher, his studies seek to show how companies’ competitive advantage is affected by the adoption, at different levels, of operational and supply chain management practices.

 

He joined Insper in 2009, where he is an Associate Professor dedicated to the areas of Operations Management and Supply Chain for Undergraduate Programs, MBA, M.Sc., and Executive Education. At undergraduate program, he is the professor responsible for the REP program (Effective Problem Solving) where students work on real problem solving projects of partner companies. Since 2017, he has acted as coordinator of the Business Administration program, and since 2019 as Executive Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program, being responsible for the areas that support the student experience and for projects that reinforce Insper’s value proposition of an integrated degree between Administration, Economics and Engineering.



Marcelo built a career spanning nearly 30 years at Itaú-Unibanco, having worked at diverse areas such as Controllership, Planning, Risks (credit, market and operational), Ombudsman, Continuous Improvement and Efficiency.

 

He worked as HR and Labor Relations Officer, responsible for the policies and guidelines of HR products, and for relations with trade unions. He still serves as Director of Unibanco Institute, a social entity related to the group that runs projects aimed at improving high school education in public schools.

 

He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from PUC-SP and has completed the professional master’s program in Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV-SP) and an extension program at the University of Texas at Austin.

 

 



Sérgio Lazzarini holds a PhD in Business Administration (in the areas of Organization and Strategy) from the John M. Olin School of Business, Washington University, and an M.Sc. in Business Administration from FEA/USP. He is a Chafi Haddad Professor of Management at Insper. He was Professor at Ivey Business School, Western University, and a visiting professor at several universities, including Harvard (2010, 2012), University of St. Gallen (2009), HEC Paris (2014), Insead (2015), Brandeis (2016), Imperial College (2017), University of Utah (2019), and University of Toronto (2021-22).

 

He has recently researched the strategy and governance of organizations interested in generating social impact, which involve private impact-oriented companies, public (state-owned) organizations, and public-private collaborations. He is the founder of Insper Metricis, a nucleus of studies in impact measurement and investment.

 

He published a trilogy of books on public-private relations: Capitalism of Ties (Elsevier, 2011, awarded second place in the 2011 Jabuti Prize; revised edition by Bei Editora, 2018), Reinventing State Capitalism: Leviathan in Business, Brazil, and Beyond (Harvard University Press, 2014, with Aldo Musacchio), and The Right Privatization: Why Private Firms in Public Initiatives Need Capable Governments (Cambridge University Press, 2022, translated version winner of the 2024 Jabuti Academic Prize).

 

Additionally, he has regularly published in various national and international academic journals, such as Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Public Choice, and Harvard Business Review Latin America, among others.

 

At Insper, he was Program Director of the Center for Research in Strategy from 2003 to 2006, Program Director of the Business Administration program from 2005 to 2006, Academic Dean of Undergraduate and M.Sc. Programs from 2007 to 2008, Academic Dean of Undergraduate Education in 2009, and Dean of Research and Graduate Education from 2013 to 2015.

 

He has worked on consulting projects for private, public, and multilateral organizations such as OECD, IDB, and the World Bank. He has been a source for various international media outlets such as The Economist, New York Times, Financial Times, Forbes, BBC, and Bloomberg. He was a member of the Executive Committee (2008-2010) and Global Representative for Latin America (2007) of the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management; a member of the Board of the International Society for the New Institutional Economics (2009-2011); and a track leader of the Strategy Division of ANPAD (2009-2010). He is currently an Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review.

 



Full Professor at Insper. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, an M.Sc. in Economics from PUC-Rio, an M.Sc. in Statistics and a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

Before joining Insper, she was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan and an associate professor at EESP/FGV. Her research areas are Econometrics and the Economics of Education. She has articles published in several international journals, including The Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Econometrics, Quantitative Economics and Review of Economics and Statistics.

 

She is currently a member of the “Latin American Standing Committee” of the Econometric Society and of the board of the Brazilian Econometric Society. She was previously an associate editor of the Brazilian Review of Econometrics.



Associate professor and coordinator of Social Responsibility and Extension, teaches courses in Strategy, Sustainability, and Social Business at Insper. Conducts consultancy and research in sustainability and corporate responsibility, Sustainable Development Goals, as well as sustainability reporting following the GRI standard.

 

She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the Federal University of Lavras, an M.Sc. from Wageningen University (WUR) in the Netherlands in Socio-Environmental Management, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Federal University of Lavras.

 

She worked at the Institute of Agricultural Economics in The Hague, in the Netherlands, as a Junior Researcher (2002-2003) and also as a researcher at PENSA (Agribusiness Intelligence Center) at FEA/USP from 2005 to 2007. She also served as the Academic Coordinator of executive programs at Insper from 2006 to 2012 (Clariant, CONIB, ABC Group, Nestle, Pepsico, Cargill, Banco Real, Santander, CPFL, Toyota, J&J, Baxter, Orbitall, Bradesco, AGF/Allianz, Einstein, Alpargatas, Ultra Group, Latapack-Ball).

 

In the field of education, she worked as a part-time professor at EASP/FGV from 2013 to 2015 and as a professor in executive education programs at FUNDACE, Unisinos, Newton Paiva, FIA, São Paulo, GV-PEC.



Silvio Abrahão Laban Neto holds a Bachelor’s degree in Naval Engineering from Poli-USP, a graduate degree with a specialization in Business Administration from EAESP-FGV and a PhD in Business Administration with emphasis in Marketing from EAESP-FGV.

 

He began academic and teaching activities in 2004, having also been deputy coordinator of the Center for Excellence in Retail. He served for more than 19 years as an executive in several service and retail organizations. He is the coordinator of the Professional Master’s in Business Administration at Insper.
