Over 100 High School Students live the Insper Experience even before the entrance examination
Between January 20 and 24, we held the second edition of Férias no Insper (Vacation at Insper), a week full of free courses for those interested in living the Insper experience even before the entrance exam.
There were 113 high school students in attendance, who took part in activities that simulate a little of what our students see in the classroom, by exploring topics that are present in our five Undergraduate Programs: Business Administration, Economics, and Engineering (Computer, Mechatronic, and Mechanical Engineering).
The activities included practical and applied actions, such as Python and robot programming, a spaghetti bridge competition to work on concepts of mechanical structures, and the elaboration of boxcars.
Each day of the meeting ended with a chat on relevant topics, including marketing and consumer behavior; professional choices; public policy and administration; and Brazil’s economic conjuncture.
“The purpose of our Vacation at Insper program is to provide High School students with hands-on learning, a central aspect of our Business Administration, Economics, and Engineering programs. In this way, the student not only learns the content, but also has more elements to decide which undergraduate program they intend to take,” says Guilherme Martins, who is in charge of the Undergraduate Programs at Insper. “We built the courses and workshops on topics that facilitate the understanding of the social and economic context, as well as aim to explore the role of technology and data analysis in today’s world”, he adds.
Technical Schools of the State of São Paulo (ETECs) – A partnership between Insper, the Department of Economic Development of the State of São Paulo, and the government agency Centro Paula Souza promoted the participation of 35 students from technical schools of the state of São Paulo (ETECs) and the state’s professional training program Novotec. “This partnership is in line with our mission of attracting talents, regardless of their socioeconomic status,” Guilherme points out.
For John Barros, advisor to the Novotec Program at the Department of Economic Development of the State of São Paulo, the partnership is very important to expand the students’ horizon of possibilities. “We were able, in this way, to present the academic world with practical experiences in which they will be able to learn about new opportunities for action and, who knows, become new students at our school”, says John Barros.
Impressions – According to Letícia Lima, who is a student at the Martin Luther King ETEC, what most caught her attention was the professors’ dedication. “I’ve gotten to know a new dynamic here. The professors believe in students’ potential and encourage them to grow professionally. I haven’t found that in other colleges,” says Letícia.
Her ETEC colleague, Cauê Isaias Pereira, agrees. “The professors are incredible and very didactic. Insper’s infrastructure is wonderful and it’s all being a lot of fun! ”. Vicenzzo Toth Amorim, a student in the Novotec Program, highlights the innovation of the proposed activities. “Working on the spaghetti bridge was an incredible activity. The experience at Insper was really good.”
