Samuel Veloso talks about our Scholarship Program’s impact and addresses the importance of the Alumni Community for the initiative
The Insper Scholarship Program was created in 2004 and has already transformed over 530 young people’s lives. That would not have been possible without generous donations from friends of Insper. A donation to the Scholarship Program can help transform the history of Brazilian talents and generate a positive impact on society as a whole.
The Alumni 20 campaign was launched in May 2020. It had the objective of increasing our Alumni Community’s participation in donating to the Insper Scholarship Program. Our goal was to reach the number of 1,000 alumni donors, besides reaching R$ 1 million in donations. The campaign ended up achieving R$ 830,000 with a matching donation by Insper’s Founder, Claudio Haddad.
One of the activities carried out during the campaign was the class challenge, with the publication of the ranking by amount raised and donor number. The positive result was due to the engagement of the Alumni Community. It closely followed each evolution and worked as a multiplier of the campaign through inspiring actions.
One of the campaign’s standouts was Samuel Veloso Pinheiro, an alumnus of Economics and former full-scholarship student. He made a donation that took his class (ECO 2015) to third place in the ranking of donor classes. Find out more about Samuel’s vision of education, the impact of the Scholarship Program, and the importance of the Alumni Community in the following interview:
1) How do you think education can transform the history of our young scholarship students?
Education is indeed a life-changing instrument. Through education, those young people can transform their realities through knowledge and the values they acquire. Something amazing is that, along with them, their families are also transformed.
2) Tell us what impact the Scholarship Program has had on your life.
The Scholarship Program allowed me to have access to an education that would have been impossible without it. Through my Insper experience, I worked in one of the world’s largest companies in three different countries and had been a startup director. Today, I run a business.
3) How do you see the importance of the Alumni Community to the Scholarship Program?
At Insper, I developed a deep sense of community and giving back for the opportunities I had. Many friends, whether former scholarship students or not, also share these values. So, it seems natural to me that our Alumni Community remains close to the school and, especially, the Scholarship Program to contribute.
4) How do you believe the Community can contribute to increasing the impact on this program?
The community can help a lot to amplify the impact and, incredibly, with very little. It is amplified if we manage to bring in more of our own — both to help those of us who are studying now and those of us who haven’t yet discovered that Insper is their place. Everything helps, but if I could sum it up, our contribution can make a big difference even with little time and/or money. Be it with occasional financial help, sponsoring a scholar, or participating in the selection process. We want to have you, from our community, always around!
