After integrating international experiences into his Executive MBA at Insper, Fabiano Matos Pinheiro attended a Harvard program for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
With a bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Fabiano Matos Pinheiro decided to seek solid training in the business field and chose Insper’s Executive MBA. The decision was motivated by his desire to expand his work’s academic and professional horizons, besides boosting the entrepreneurial venture he had created with his wife.
In 2018, the alumnus had the opportunity to attend two programs offered by Insper’s International Relations area. The first was the HBS FIELD Global Immersion, offered in partnership with the Harvard Business School MBA program. The second was the national stage of the blocked courses, a partnership with UCLA Anderson School of Management. Both experiences were fundamental for him to become interested in living new international academic experiences.
He decided to join an international Business Analysis and Data Science program. In his search, he found the Harvard Business Analytics Program. It is a multidisciplinary training developed jointly by three Harvard schools, focusing on the study of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
“The interdisciplinarity experienced at Insper is also a reality around the world, and a century-old university like Harvard owes its permanence to the constant search to explore everything it does well, without failing to examining and investigating new value-generation techniques and opportunities,” said the alumnus.
Check out our full interview with Fabiano:
What program did you attend at Insper? What brought you closer to the institution?
I’m a Computer Engineer and, after having led the Technology area in companies related to Logistics, Manufacturing, Retail, and Services, I understood that it was time to seek solid Business training. At the end of this careful selection, I decided on Insper’s Executive MBA, and I’m sure I made the right choice. Graduate studies opened my eyes to new academic and professional horizons.
How do you assess this training’s impact on your career?
Insper’s MBA allowed me to increase my repertoire of contributions in the corporate environment beyond technology. I also had new professional experiences, such as, for example, leading an M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) process. Besides, I was able to improve the results of the business that my wife and I run.
How did Insper’s international programs encourage you to live experiences in other countries?
In May 2018, Insper’s International Relations team invited students to attend the Harvard Business School MBA’s HBS FIELD Global Immersion program. I promptly responded to the invitation and was fascinated by the experience of participating in a global academic activity with students from different countries. In July of the same year, I also took part in the Brazilian stage of the blocked courses proposed by Insper and UCLA Anderson School of Management. After those two experiences, which were very rich from an academic and cultural viewpoint, I became interested in living a new international academic experience.
Why did you decide to enroll in the Harvard Business Analytics Program?
After researching several international programs in the area of Business Analysis and Data Science, I understood that this program was the most appropriate, as it combined my Computer Engineering background with my Business training at Insper. Also, this program is multidisciplinary, the only one being jointly developed by three Harvard schools – HBS (Harvard Business School), SEAS (Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences), and FAS (Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences). With that, I was able to study Data Science and Artificial Intelligence while applying strategy, marketing, operations, human resources, and leadership concepts to it.
What were the main lessons you learned when joining that international program?
Besides studying Data Science and Artificial Intelligence applications in the business world and how digital businesses have generated exponential growth, I learned the role of leadership in this new era in search of solid and lasting business structures. Another great learning experience was experimentation and its value for the evolution of businesses.
International Opportunities
“Insper’s international area develops different out-of-class activities during the programs so that students have international experiences, either inside Insper itself or on trips such as the learning journeys. It is important that students stay tuned to the area’s announcements to take advantage of everything Insper offers,” says Ana Carolina Souza, Insper International’s Specialist.
