Ph.D., M.Sc., and Bachelor in Statistics from the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo (IME-USP), with a sandwich Ph.D. at British Columbia University in Vancouver, Canada. He has also held the position of Dean of Research and Graduate Education (2009-2012). He was a professor at IME-USP between 1989 and 2001. Between 2006 and 2008, he was a member of the Board of the Brazilian Statistical Association, where he served as secretary and member of the Board of Counsellors between 1998 and 2002.
