He is also part of the Science for Childhood Nucleus (NCPI), dedicated to early childhood development, and leads research on Victimization in the City of São Paulo, analyzing crime data in the state capital since 2003. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University College London, with a Master's and Bachelor's degree, also in Economics, from the University of São Paulo (USP). His research focuses on Economics, emphasizing human capital and inequality, primarily addressing the following themes: education, labor market, income distribution, productivity, technology, and unemployment. He is also an Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Business Administration of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP), a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and a columnist for the newspaper Valor Econômico. Elected in 2014 to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences as a Full Member in Social Sciences. He has published articles in national and international academic journals such as Lancet, PNAS, Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, and Journal of International Economics. He served as editor of the Brazilian Review of Econometrics and reviewer for publications such as the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Economic Journal, among others. He received the Mario Henrique Simonsen Lecture award, granted by the Latin American Econometric Society, and twice the Haralambos Simeonidis Award for the best doctoral thesis and best article published by a Brazilian Economist, in 1999 and 2006.
