He completed his undergraduate program and M.Sc. in Economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and received his Ph.D. from Princeton University. His research areas are macroeconomics and finance. Determination of individual prices and inflation, fiscal and inflation expectations, and the credit market are among his main current research topics. His work has been published in several academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, AEJ: Macro, Journal of Monetary Economics, Economic Journal, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, and Journal of Development Economics. He has been an active participant in the Brazilian academic environment, having served as director and President of the Brazilian Econometric Society and the Brazilian Finance Society. He was a member of the Latin American Standing Committee of the Econometric Society. Currently, he is a member of the Committee on Economic Cycles Dating (CODACE, IBRE-FGV).
