He is also a political analyst, actively participating in various communication outlets, a speaker, and a consultant for national and foreign companies. Through impartial analysis and dispassionate reflection, he has sought to contribute to Brazil's political, economic, and social debate. A collaborator for various communication outlets, he is also a columnist at UOL, where he maintains a blog with analysis on Brazilian politics (carlosmelo.blogosfera.uol.com.br). A researcher on topics such as elections, parties, political conflict, and political leadership, Melo is a member of the teams at Center for Public Management & Policy and the Center for Leadership and Innovation, all at Insper. He is professor of Sociology and Politics (undergraduate) and of Strategy and Politics (M.Sc.), and of the Government Relations Program, all at Insper. Coordinator of the Humanities Path and member of the institution's Academic Unit. As a professor of Political Leadership, Multiculturalism, History of Power, he also teaches in Executive Education programs. Many times the patron or honoree by graduating classes in the undergraduate, he has numerous times been a finalist for the Chafi Haddad Chair Prize – best professor of the year – winning it in two editions; he is a Senior Teaching Fellow at Insper and Alumni Ambassador.
