Criteria such as infrastructure, curriculum, faculty, extension, connection with research, and bibliography were considered in the evaluation, which confirmed the initial report made for the creation of the program.   "The highest grade from MEC is an important recognition that reinforces Insper's commitment to academic excellence and validates a pedagogical approach that puts students as protagonists of their education," says Priscila Claro, Dean of Undergraduate Education at Insper. "The Computer Science program is a living example of our mission: to train people capable of transforming realities through applied knowledge, collaboration, and empathy. Here, theory and practice go hand in hand, with purpose and social impact," she adds.   Similarly, for Fabio de Miranda, Program Director of the Computer Science undergraduate program at Insper, the result crowns a teaching model that combines solid foundations and intensive practice aimed at professional contexts.   "We achieved the highest grade in most evaluation concepts. This shows that we communicate well the innovations of our program, which is quite different from a more conventional computer science program but clearly maintains conceptual integrity based on a solid foundation," says Fabio.   Through a workload of 3,360 hours distributed over eight semesters, Insper's Computer Science students are prepared to tackle technical challenges while also developing skills like leadership and agility, graduating with the necessary training to meet the real demands of a highly dynamic job market.     Applied theory and real market connection   One of the differentiators of Insper's curricular structure is the deep contact with practical experiences, without forsaking fundamentals, from the beginning of the program. Courses focused on areas of knowledge like logic, mathematics, and ethics ensure conceptual foundation, while projects with companies and third-sector organizations present concrete challenges for students to solve throughout the semesters.   A highlight of the program is Developer Life (DevLife), a course offered in the first semester of the undergraduate program, which is the backbone of students' practical experience at the start of the program. With a weekly workload of 28 hours including classes and office hours, it simulates the daily life of a developer interacting with a real client.   "The student takes on a real project, with deliverables, team management, and scope issues, as it happens in companies," explains Fabio.   Created by professors Andrew Kurauchi and Igor Montagner and inspired by tools used in engineering programs and programming bootcamp models, the Developer Life system allows students to participate from day 1 in intensive training, based on automatic feedback, providing an introductory foundation to the computing universe.   In practice, students write code to solve exercises and submit them to a platform that automatically tests whether the result is correct. More than identifying errors, the DevLife system provides suggestions and directions, such as clues about what might be wrong or which strategy to try next.   "We tried to develop something that not only indicated whether (the code) was right or wrong but also gave some hint about which direction to go to try to solve the program," explains professor Andrew.   To date, first-semester Computer Science students have received more than 200,000 cumulative feedbacks on exercises to practice programming. The idea is to stimulate autonomous learning and the development of the ability to "learn to learn" — one of the core competencies of Insper graduates. While the system provides real-time feedback, professors can spend more time on the specific doubts of each student, in a personalized exchange between professors and students.   "This allows professors to engage in deeper discussions because students already come with more well-formulated questions," notes Andrew.   Already in the final stretch of the program, students dedicate themselves to the Capstone, the project that marks the conclusion of the Insper student's training process. An additional 360 hours are spent on delivering a solution to a concrete need of a company.   The first cohort of the Computer Science program graduates in 2025. For Fabio, with these combined actions, Insper graduates have a distinct profile: they will be professionals with a solid technical foundation, practical vision, and the ability to mobilize teams for focused deliverables. "They are good at delivering. They know how to identify the need, organize the team, and focus on the goal. It's something that has been noticed by employers and internship supervisors," he summarizes.     Training with a social and empathetic perspective   The curricular structure also features intensive Sprint Sessions projects conducted in full-time format every semester, with students from the first to the fourth semester, that includes the participation of external clients. Companies like iFood, Johnson & Johnson, and Dasa are part of the initiative's portfolio.   "Since the clients have real pains, they have regular meetings with our students, who end up experiencing situations common in real projects," explains Fabio.   In the third semester, the Sprint focuses on social innovation, incorporating a dimension still uncommon in the technology field: the contact with social issues. Without forgetting that work like programming and designing systems starts and ends with people, the program's curricular structure also challenges students to create solutions for the demands of third-sector organizations.   For four years, Insper has partnered with the Heliópolis Residents Association. In this initiative, student groups engage with the community to identify challenges in vulnerable territories and, based on this mapping, develop technological solutions for predefined problems.   In the second semester of 2024, for example, a group of students planned an application for the Homeless Movement of Heliópolis and Region, aiming to facilitate the registration of candidates for home ownership and track the service queue within the community. The application project proposes replacing the current paper-based system, providing more agility and transparency in the process.   The partnership also brings young people from Heliópolis to Insper, promoting social exchange. "It's a beautiful exercise in breaking bubbles, on both sides. Our students get to know a Brazil that is often distant to them, and the young people from Heliópolis see that it is possible to study here, they discover the FabLab, learn about the Scholarship Programs," says Fabio.   For Fabio, this exchange strengthens student motivation and connects academic training to concrete societal demands — a direct reflection of Insper's pedagogical proposal.   "It's a strong empathy exercise. Students deal with real problems of people with basic needs, such as mothers without daycare or residents affected by floods. They learn how computing can be a tool to transform these realities," says the Program Director.    "},{"linkIcon1":"icon-insper-return-arrow","linkIcon2":"icon-insper-return-arrow","linkText1":"Ciência da Computação","linkText2":"Engenharia de Computação","madeBy":"Por","title":"cursos relacionados","variant":"nobackground","buttonText":"+ graduação"},{"jcr:title":"transparente / turquesa / amarelo"},{"themeName":"transparente / turquesa / amarelo"},{"linkIcon1":"icon-insper-fi-rs-document","linkIcon2":"icon-insper-fi-rs-document","linkText1":"Entenda as diferenças entre os cursos de Engenharia e Ciência da Computação","linkText2":"Em quais áreas e tipos de empresas um engenheiro de computação pode atuar?","madeBy":"Por","title":"conteúdos","variant":"image","buttonText":"+ conteúdos"},{"jcr:title":"transparente / amarelo / vermelho"},{"themeName":"transparente / amarelo / vermelho"}]
