Insper’s master's and doctoral programs achieved outstanding results in CAPES’s Quadrennial Evaluation for the 2021–2024 period. Three programs received a score of 5: the Professional Master’s in Business Administration (MPA), the Professional Master’s in Economics (MPE), and the Academic Doctoral Program in Business Economics (DAEN). The Professional Master’s in Public Policy (MPP) received a score of 4 in its first evaluation covering a full four-year cycle. The CAPES Quadrennial Evaluation (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, the Brazilian federal agency responsible for the expand and strengthen Brazil’s stricto sensu graduate programs) is a rigorous process conducted by academic peers and based on indicators such as intellectual production, human resource training, social engagement, and impact. Scores range from 1 to 7. Professional master’s programs may receive a maximum score of 5, while academic programs, such as doctoral programs, may reach a score of 7. Scores of 5 or higher are considered to reflect a high standard of excellence. According to Cristine Pinto, Dean of Research and Graduate Education at Insper, the strong performance across all areas is the result of a strategy based on three pillars: attracting faculty with internationally recognized academic excellence, rigorous student selection, and active program management with close monitoring of indicators by Program Directors. “We prioritize attracting faculty who publish regularly in top international journals and maintain solid research agendas. This shared foundation of academic excellence allowed different programs to uphold high standards of research, training, and evaluation,” says Cristine. She highlights that the school has made a structured effort to attract highly qualified and committed students capable of producing research with strong academic impact and practical relevance. “This virtuous environment has been sustained by the continuous work of Program Directors, who operate in close coordination with the administration to monitor indicators, adjust strategies, and ensure coherence between scientific output, student training, and the pedagogical project,” she notes. “The result has been a simultaneous and consistent improvement in academic quality across all areas.” Cristine emphasizes that Insper views academic rigor and practical relevance as complementary objectives. “We start from the principle that internationally high-level research and applied impact are not mutually exclusive,” she states. This guideline is reflected in research projects and in the supervision of theses and dissertations, which combine sophisticated methods with highly relevant applied topics, with Program Directors playing a central role in ensuring academic excellence and the generation of tangible value for society. Doctoral Program in Business Economics Created in 2015, the [Doctoral Program in Business Economics](https://www.insper.edu.br/en/programs/graduate/doctoral-program-in-business-economics1) is the only academic program among Insper’s graduate offerings — the other programs are professional. According to Professor Eduardo Faingold, Program Director, the score of 5 awarded by CAPES represents the best possible result within the agency’s current evaluation cycle. The professor recalls that this was the program’s first full evaluation. “In the first evaluation, the program had not yet completed the required number of years. In the second, there was not yet the minimum number of graduates for the program to be considered,” he explains. According to him, the score of 5 recognizes the program’s quality in three main areas: the intellectual production of students and alumni, with publications in high-impact international journals; the professional placement of Ph.D. graduates, both in academia and in the private sector; and the scientific productivity of the faculty. Program alumni have obtained positions at institutions such as HEC Paris, Copenhagen Business School, the University of Glasgow, PUC Chile, FEA-USP, FGV, the World Bank, Itaú Asset, BTG Pactual, C6 Bank, Mercado Livre, among others. In addition, Insper’s program stands out for its strong international profile: all classes and seminars are taught in English, students complete an academic exchange (sandwich internship) in the fourth year, the faculty consists of internationally active researchers, and the program regularly hosts visiting scholars from leading institutions around the world. A key differentiator of the program is the integration of research in Economics and Business. “In addition to research in traditional fields of Economics such as macroeconomics, applied microeconomics, econometrics, and economic theory, the program includes research lines in strategy and marketing, two subfields of Business Administration,” Faingold highlights. Professional Master’s in Business Administration The [Professional Master’s in Business Administration](https://www.insper.edu.br/en/programs/graduate/msc-in-business-administration) maintained its score of 5 in CAPES’s quadrennial evaluation, reaffirming its leading position among professional programs in Brazil. According to Professor Danny Claro, Program Director, maintaining the maximum score in consecutive evaluations requires consistency and academic solidity — the result of a combination of structural, pedagogical, and scientific pillars. These pillars include the selectivity of both faculty and students, the offering of cutting-edge content in management and analytical methods, and curricular integration across courses  “Cohorts are sized to allow for intense interaction between professors and students, enabling close supervision and full use of the diversity of experiences brought into the classroom,” Danny emphasizes. The theses address real-world problems faced by organizations with a high level of theoretical, methodological, and analytical rigor. This combination of practical relevance and academic excellence has led to presentations at conferences and publications in scientific journals. The score of 5 also represents a quality seal recognized nationally and internationally. “CAPES’s endorsement signals to the market that MPA alumni possess intellectual maturity, analytical rigor, and a real capacity to generate impact in organizations,” says Danny. The program seeks to develop professionals capable of applying the scientific method in practice, analyzing complex scenarios with a systemic perspective, and acting ethically and responsibly. Professional Master’s in Economics The [Professional Master’s in Economics (MPE)](https://www.insper.edu.br/en/programs/graduate/msc-in-economics) maintained its score of 5 in CAPES’s Quadrennial Evaluation, confirming its trajectory as one of the country’s most solid programs in training professionals with strong analytical skills. With more than two decades of recognized excellence, the program combines technical rigor, continuous updating, and evidence-based practical application. According to Professor and Program Director Ruy Monteiro Ribeiro, the consistency of the MPE’s performance over the years is associated with a combination of key factors. “We have a highly stable faculty committed to academic excellence, dedicated not only to the quality of the courses offered in the program but also to close supervision of students in the development of their theses,” he states. “Another central element is the program’s consolidated reputation, which allows us to attract highly qualified and equally committed students.” The MPE offers an in-depth analytical and quantitative approach to applied economic and financial problems. The program prepares students to perform at a high level in areas such as finance, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and public policy evaluation, using tools such as econometric and computational modeling, always grounded in the scientific method. The master’s degree also qualifies alumni to begin an academic career, should they choose to pursue that path. The program values training based on three fundamental pillars: technical rigor, continuously updated content, and evidence-based solutions. The curriculum is periodically reviewed, and students are encouraged to engage with the most recent and relevant global economic research. “Evaluation processes consider not only the scientific output of the faculty, but also, in an equally relevant manner, the output of the student body,” Ruy emphasizes. For him, CAPES’s score of 5 is an important external validation, but not the only indicator of impact. “Maintaining the maximum score for more than two decades demonstrates our ongoing commitment to academic excellence. Still, we believe the most relevant impact stems from the evaluation by our alumni and the concrete effects the program has on their professional trajectories and intellectual development.” Professional Master’s in Public Policy Created in 2019, the [Professional Master’s in Public Policy](https://www.insper.edu.br/en/programs/graduate/msc-in-public-policies) received a score of 4 from CAPES for the 2021–2024 quadrennial cycle, its first evaluation covering a full four-year period. The result recognizes the program’s maturation and its educational proposal focused on strengthening public management in Brazil. Aimed at professionals from the public sector, private sector, and third sector, the program combines theoretical foundations, practical application, and evidence-based analysis. According to Professor Carolina Melo, who served as Program Director until the end of 2025, the score of 4 awarded by CAPES represents important recognition of the work and dedication of the program’s faculty and students, as well as of the coordination teams that have led the MPP since its inception. “In recent years, the program has consolidated its identity as a high-quality education experience, focused on training professionals capable of identifying and analyzing public problems, proposing public policy solutions, and evaluating them rigorously, thereby contributing to the country’s sustainable development,” says Carolina. She highlights that the MPP brings together faculty with qualified academic output and relevant technical experience, as well as students engaged in research that bridges theory and practice. Its alumni already hold impactful positions in international organizations, governments, the third sector, consulting firms, and doctoral programs. “Taken together, these factors have contributed to strengthening the program and to the recognition achieved by CAPES,” Carolina states. In turn, Professor Bruno Varella, who assumed coordination of the MPP this year, highlights the program’s next steps. “Building on the strong legacy established since the creation of the MPP, our challenge is to further deepen our ability to influence relevant public policy debates in Brazil without compromising the academic rigor that defines the program,” says Bruno. “We generate impact when we provide inputs to public debate grounded in evidence and best academic practices.” With a two-year duration, the MPP combines theoretical training with practical application, equipping students to understand the limits of public policies, design implementable data-driven solutions, and evaluate outcomes using rigorous methods. The improvement in CAPES’s score confirms that the program is on a consistent and relevant path toward training transformative leaders."}]
