She is a climate thought leader and an expert in sustainable energy technology, with extensive experience in academic administration. Professor Abramson’s research has focused broadly on thermal transport, from designing nanostructured materials to addressing building energy efficiency. Before coming to her role at Columbia in January 2025, Professor Abramson served as the dean of the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.  Prior to her tenure at Dartmouth, she was the Milton and Tamar Maltz Professor of Energy Innovation at Case Western Reserve University and served as a director of that university’s Great Lakes Energy Institute where she focused on creating sustainable energy technology solutions. Abramson also co-founded Edifice Analytics, a start-up that conducts virtual energy audits and manages building efficiency optimization. During the Obama administration, Abramson held the role of chief scientist and manager of the Emerging Technologies Division at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office. She has previously served as a technical advisor to Breakthrough Energy Ventures, established by Bill Gates to invest in startup companies with significant potential to mitigate climate change.  Professor Abramson’s research has included novel techniques for thermal characterization of nanostructures, the design and synthesis of unique nanomaterials for use in alternative energy applications, and strategies to accelerate technology commercialization at universities and research institutions. She has also written about gender imbalances in academic settings and the importance of taking a human-centered and multidisciplinary approach to education and research, particularly in STEM and related fields.  Professor Abramson earned her BS and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley."},{"fileName":"site (1).png"},{"text":"Beatriz Granziera Senior Policy Advisor at The Nature Conservancy, where she leads TNC's global strategy on international carbon credits and large-scale forest programs (JREDD+). She brings extensive experience on the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 negotiations and its links with nature and other carbon markets, and has been supporting developing countries in translating Article 6 rules into domestic policy. Beatriz has authored several publications, including Article 6 Explainer, Article 6 Implementation, REDD+ and Article 6 and, and International REDD+ Standards Tool, contributing to the global understanding and application of complex climate themes. Prior to her work at TNC, Beatriz served as a Teaching Fellow at Yale University. She also held the position of cabinet advisor at the São Paulo State Environmental Secretariat in Brazil, where she provided strategic guidance on state-level environmental and climate initiatives. He focuses on the role of financial markets and instruments—including thematic bonds, blended finance structures, and carbon markets—in the energy transition, with an emphasis on emerging economies. Dr. Jain has an extensive background in the financial industry where he covered emerging markets as a portfolio manager and strategist. He has worked at asset management firms and an investment bank, including The Rohatyn Group, Barclays Capital, and Millennium Partners. He has helped manage emerging market local debt and hard-currency bond portfolios, encompassing currencies, interest rate instruments, and sovereign credits. He specialized in portfolio construction and asset allocation incorporating macroeconomic, policy, and political developments in emerging markets. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Columbia University. He also has an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University and a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is a CFA charter holder, a Cornell EMI Fellow, an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a consultant for the United Nations to support the workstream of the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance on “Tackling Local Currency Risk”. He has co-authored publications in the Journal of Derivatives, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Applied Probability, Probability in Engineering and Informational Science, and the International Journal of Production Economics. Lourdes has actively participated in international forums on climate transition and carbon markets, including COP29, where she represented ACX in discussions on Brazil’s strategic role in the global landscape."},{"fileName":"site (21).png"},{"text":"Luísa Palácios Is the Interim Director of Research and Managing Director of Energy Transition Finance at the Center on Global Energy Policy. She comes to the center after a multidisciplinary career in the intersection of energy, finance and policy. She was the Chairwoman of Houston-based Citgo Petroleum Corporation during a critical period in its history, as it faced significant geopolitical, financial, operational, and legal challenges. As Citgo’s first-ever chairwoman, Palacios also shaped efforts to strengthen corporate governance, ethics, and social responsibility. Before her time at Citgo, Palacios was a Senior Managing Director and member of the management committee of Medley Global Advisors, a NY-based energy and macro policy research firm. She headed Medley’s Latin America’s economic and energy practice and later the firm’s emerging market research team. She previously worked at Barclays Capital as a Director in the emerging markets research department in New York and as an economist in the risk department at Société Générale in Paris. She also worked as Senior Economist at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and as a Consultant in the Office of the Chief Economist for Latin America at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, Venezuela; received a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs; and obtained a Ph.D. in international affairs from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Dr. Palacios co-leads the ESG/Energy Transition Finance working group and the Financing of the Energy Transition Initiative at CGEP. She is an adjunct faculty member at the School of International and Public Affairs, an affiliated faculty member at the Institute for Latin American Studies at Columbia University, and a member of the faculty advisory committee of Columbia University’s Santiago Global Center in Chile. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Americas Quarterly and a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
