The choice of Insper as the pioneering partner in the region was no coincidence. According to Fabio Mori, OpenAI’s Director of Education Accounts, the school offered the ideal conditions to implement a complete institutional adoption model, going beyond isolated use in specific courses toward broad integration across all academic and administrative activities. The selection took into account multiple criteria, including the school’s clear institutional vision for integrating AI into teaching, research, and management, as well as its technical capacity and governance structure to ensure responsible adoption of the technology. For Mori, bringing ChatGPT Edu to Latin America was among the company’s top priorities. “The project involves students, faculty, researchers, and administrative teams, putting into practice a model of AI use in education that we believe is both effective and transformative,” says Mori, emphasizing that the initiative seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of a safe and comprehensive deployment of the technology in educational institutions. Shared strategic vision For Suelane Garcia Fontes, Manager of the  [Data and AI Center at Insper](https://portal.datascience.insper.edu.br/pt/) , the agreement represents a strategic advancement in integrating Artificial Intelligence into education, research, and innovation. “The Data and AI Center joins this initiative by transforming OpenAI models into practical learning, research, and innovation experiences, strengthening AI education, and promoting a critical and strategic vision of the future of business and emerging technologies,” she explains. To further strengthen this collaboration, the "Inside OpenAI @ Insper" event was held on October 15, organized by the Data and AI Center and exclusively targeted at the Insper community. According to Suelane, the initiative brought the Insper community closer to OpenAI specialists. “More than a technical meeting, it is a strategic learning and exchange environment that allows understanding trends, discussing practical applications, and reflecting on how AI is shaping the future of education, research, and business," highlights Suelane. Gradual Expansion and Continuous Learning OpenAI already plans to expand ChatGPT Edu to other Latin American universities, using each partnership as a learning lab. “The Insper case will help us consolidate best practices in adoption, faculty training, and impact assessment that can be replicated at other universities in the region,” says Mori. The company draws inspiration from successful implementations at institutions such as Oxford, Wharton, Columbia, and the University of Texas at Austin. Expected outcomes within Insper’s ecosystem, according to Mori, are organized into three main pillars: 1. Learning: Increased productivity and quality in academic activities such as writing, editing, data analysis, and guided study. 2. Research: Acceleration of analysis, literature review, and scientific communication processes, while maintaining data integrity and intellectual property. 3. Innovation and operations: Use of AI to enhance internal processes and campus services. “ChatGPT can assist with various campus tasks — offering personalized tutoring to students, reviewing resumes, supporting researchers with grant proposals, and helping faculty with assessments and feedback,” Mori explains.   Advanced features and robust security ChatGPT Edu includes updated functionalities such as access to OpenAI’s latest models, data analysis and web browsing capabilities, and the ability to create custom versions of the tool (GPTs) for internal sharing. The platform offers significantly higher message limits than the free version and supports more than 50 languages. Addressing concerns about privacy and security, Mori emphasizes OpenAI’s strict policies: “ChatGPT Edu customer data is not used to train models and remains under the institution’s control.” The company ensures encryption at rest and in transit and complies with international standards such as SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR, and CCPA, aligned with Brazil’s LGPD principles. Preparing students for the future Regarding AI’s impact on the job market, Mori notes that the best way to prepare for an AI-driven world is to develop familiarity with available tools. “That way, regardless of your field, you can use AI as a multiplier of your skills and time,” he explains. According to Mori, Insper's Data and AI Center can serve as a center of excellence in applied research, developing studies on AI's pedagogical impact in different areas of knowledge and creating best practices based on real usage data. The OpenAI executive acknowledges existing challenges, such as the risk of students using AI to bypass the learning process. For that reason, the company advocates a collaborative approach: “Our shared responsibility, as an educational ecosystem, is to help students use these tools appropriately — to enhance learning, not replace it — and to rethink how teaching, learning, and assessment can function in a world with artificial intelligence.” Thus, the agreement between OpenAI and Insper represents not just a technological deployment but a joint effort to establish responsible and effective practices in educational AI use, serving as a reference point for future expansion across Latin America. “Institutions like Insper play an essential role in helping us build responsible practices as we continue developing our tools to support the evolution of education,” concludes Mori."}]
